I really hate it when somebody forgets that kind of important piece of personal history. Even if it was MORE important to the child getting hit than to the adult ... it's still appalling for the adult to dismiss or deny it.

Thanks. I'll be fine. It just really stung to find out that all those years she's exhorted me to forgive him and love him as my father, she didn't even consciously understand what it is that he did. She told me that she wouldn't have stayed with him if she'd known how much he hit me, but that doesn't make any sense because she has to have seen him do it at some point. Shit, he even made jokes about getting out the belt.
